We believe in guiding all students toward achieving their individual potential and attaining success.
We believe in offering a diverse and challenging curriculum that prepares our students for future endeavors.
We believe that success is obtained through personal responsibility, initiative, high expectations, honest effort, and a dedication to individual goals.
We believe in providing an environment that is built on respecting self and others and is conducive to learning and building self-esteem.
We believe that parents are essential participants in the learning process and should continue being an integral part of their children’s educational experience in our school.
The Saint Thomas School makes every effort to provide a learning environment conducive to the development of the intellectual, physical and social area of every student, in order for each student to reach his or her optimal academic and social potential. Leadership, self-discipline, cooperation, ethical behavior, and respect towards others, are equally important to the school. This is to be accomplished through a well-rounded program that integrates core values in citizenship, responsibility and integrity.
In all aspects of the academic program, the student is the center of our efforts. The goal is to see that our students experience personal growth while they prepare academically to face the many challenges that they will meet throughout their lives. Our main goal is to assist the students to develop critical thinking and, analytical skills, teaching them to use these skills in a rational and effective way.
Our program of studies emphasizes appreciation for aesthetics and cultural values. Music, art, foreign languages, and technology are integrated into the program of studies. These are designed to provide a wider view of the world around them, and to prepare them to make wise and appropriate decisions in life.
The basic academic program includes instruction in English for each of the following areas: Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Health, Computers and Physical Education. In addition, the program includes instruction in Spanish for the courses required by the Dominican Ministry of Education. Strong efforts are made to integrate various aspects of the program of studies. Basic objectives for eighth grade through level twelve are identified and consolidated for all areas of the curriculum. The Common Core Standards provide the foundation, or core, of the program. Student progress is monitored continuously, on the basis of formative assessments. Strong emphasis is placed on developing Critical Thinking skills by having students research, analyze, and come up with their own conclusion supported with reliable sources and references.
The School is committed to provide a balanced program of instruction in English that meets the highest standards of an American-based curriculum, commensurate with the abilities, interests, and educational needs of our student body. In addition, the program provides instruction in Spanish that prepares students to further their education whether they seek to pursue studies in a U.S. school, college or university or a local university. The program meets the requirements of the Dominican Ministry of Education, allowing students to experience involvement in their cultural and historical context; this provides awareness and tolerance of diversity.
The Saint Thomas School's Counseling Department, among other things, offers college and career guidance to students during their high school years. The department advises students and parents regarding high school programs, and prepares them for college application and admission. Up to date, our students have been admitted and have enrolled into several prestigious colleges and universities abroad.
